5 Ways to Celebrate Working Naked Day

Tuesday marks the second annual Working Naked Day, started by WorkingNaked.com founder and home office expert Lisa Kanarek. To Kanarek, “working naked” has two meanings: working in your pajamas, underwear or other unsuitable-for-a-regular-office-job attire; or working from home, stripped of corporate, administrative, or technical support.

Kanarek said she created WorkingNaked.com – and wrote the book Working Naked: A guide to the bare essentials of home office life - to help home office professionals, like herself, who work from home without the support of the corporate workplace.

“We’re taking care of everything ourselves … we’re working naked,” Kanarek said. “I created Working Naked Day to celebrate the freedom home office professionals have to follow their own rules.”

Here are 5 tips Kanarek offered to other home-office workers on Working Naked Day.

No. 1: Expose yourself to new technology. In addition to storing data on your computer or an external hard drive, check out and consider using an online data storage option such as Dropbox or planning software like Evernote.No. 2: Strip your home office down to the basics. Instead of using separate machines for faxing, printing, scanning and copying, use an all-in- one machine.

No. 3: Don't be modest. Share your accomplishments by hanging diplomas or business awards on your wall. Let your home office reflect your personality and style.

No. 4: Dress up your office. Your home office doesn’t have to have a boring, corporate look. Install draperies with interesting patterns and designs, paint your walls any color other than white, and hang colorful artwork.

No. 5: Cover up your floor (or at least part of it) to absorb sound. By adding an area rug or wall-to-wall carpeting to your home office, you won’t sound as if you’re in a cave when you’re on the phone or a videoconference call.
