Ford Recalls 13K Vehicles to Fix Child Locks

Ford Motor (NYSE:F) said it is recalling about 13,100 vehicles to fix a problem with their door latches, which may fail and cause child safety locks to deactivate.

The recall covers the Explorer sport utility vehicle, Taurus sedan and Lincoln MKS luxury sedan from model-year 2013. The affected vehicles were sold in the U.S., Canada and Mexico and built over a period of two weeks late last year.

Ford said the issue was uncovered during a routine audit. When opening or closing the door, the safety locks can be turned off and allow the door to be opened using the inside door handle.

No injuries or accidents have been reported.

Dealers will test the child safety locks, replacing the latch if necessary at no cost to owners.

Ford’s latest recall is the second one in the last month to include the 2013 Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS. Those three vehicles, in addition to the 2013 Flex, Fusion and Police Interceptor, were part of a recall of 465,000 vehicles related to 600 complaints for fuel leaks. Roughly 390,000 of those recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S.

Shares were down 10 cents at $15.55 in pre-market trading. Ford has soared about 53.6% over the last 12 months.
