John McAfee: We’re on the Verge of a Cyber War
The Department of Justice filed a motion to compel Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) to comply with the order to assist the FBI in unlocking the iPhone used by the San Bernardino terrorist. During an interview with the FOX Business Network’s Trish Regan, McAfee & Associates founder John McAfee said there’s a big misunderstanding regarding what the FBI actually wants from Apple.
“The FBI doesn’t just want to unlock that iPhone. The FBI wants Apple to change its IOS, the operating system, so that it creates a back door to all encryption.” he argued.
McAfee warned that creating a back door would eventually fall into the hands of hackers and our enemies. “There has never been a backdoor that’s been kept secret… the Chinese will have the back door,” he said.
McAfee then explained why the Apple, FBI debacle goes beyond terrorists and murders.
“I’m not saying it is important to protect their privacy. But what I am saying is [that] it’s far more important to protect our nation from our enemies. We’re on the verge of a cyber-war.”
