Despite the price spike, agricultural economists are shrugging off reports of a global bacon shortage that caused a lot of squealing on social media last week. Turns out the rumors were caused by a European trade group that reported an “unavoidable” bacon shortage due to a decline in European pig herds and higher feed costs caused by drought. The American Farm Bureau Federation quickly quelled the rumors, reassuring Americans they won’t have to go without their morning staple.
