Inside Meghan and Harry’s $14M Montecito home

Former royals Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan Markle, 39, gave a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday, March 7, about why the pair stepped back from the royal limelight and moved to California.

Their new life is anchored in their 18,000-square-foot modern house in Montecito, California, which the pair purchased for $14.65 million this summer.

The interview did not take place at the couple’s new home, as was originally rumored, according to the Daily Mail.

The nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom mansion is home to Harry, Meghan, their 1-year-old son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and, soon, a new daughter, who is expected this summer, Markle revealed in the interview.

Inside, the Chateau of Riven Rock has a foyer with a staircase, an elevator, living and dining rooms, a gourmet kitchen with a butler’s pantry, a breakfast room, a family room, a library, a billiards room with a wet bar, a home theater, a gym, a wine cellar and a spa with a massage room.

Meghan and Harry’s cream-colored owner’s bedroom suite has a fireplace, a television, a chandelier, exposed wood beams on the ceiling, French doors and a balcony. Attached is an extravagant bathroom, which includes a fireplace, a chandelier, a marble bathtub and a large vanity, plus another sitting room, according to Home Advisor.

Fans got a tiny sneak peak of their new house in a webcam call this summer, revealing cream walls, dark window frames and some plants, Page Six previously reported.

The mansion is gorgeous, but viewers were most interested in the family’s chicken coop, which has a sign that reads: “Archie’s Chick Inn. Established 2021.” Harry can be seen feeding their chickens, which were rescued from a factory farm, in a recorded clip played during the interview.

Their five-acre estate also boasts rose gardens, century-old olive trees, an outdoor pizza oven, pool, playground, vegetable garden, tennis court, a two-bedroom guest house, a tea house and a children’s house, Page Six previously reported.

Harry and Markle had previously been staying in “Madea” character actor Tyler Perry’s Los Angeles mansion before moving about an hour and a half away to Santa Barbara, California. Their estate’s proximity to Markle’s mom was ideal during a time when Markle was struggling with her mental health.

“It was a good place for them to be upon their arrival in the US, to be close to Meghan’s mom [who lives in LA],” a source previously told Page Six.

Their new house is near the Santa Barbara beach. Footage of Archie playing on the shore was shown as part of the CBS special. The home is also near their known celebrity friends, Ellen DeGeneres and, of course, Winfrey, who courted the ex-royals for years to land the interview.

The interview was originally rumored to have been filmed at Harry and Meghan’s Montecito house, but Oprah confidante and “CBS This Morning” host Gayle King told reporters the interview was shot at “a friend’s house,” according to the Daily Mail.

Reports surfaced this morning that the interview was filmed at King’s house, but the New York Post was not able to confirm these reports. King was not previously known to own a home in Montecito and has camped out in Oprah’s guest house on trips from New York City.
