Walmart, Aldi, Lidl trim Thanksgiving prices amid soaring inflation
BJ's Wholesale Club is also offering members the chance to get a free turkey
Grocers and retailers are pitching in to ease the inflationary burden of putting a Thanksgiving feast on the table.
Some stores are offering free turkeys and even issued major discounts on holiday food items as Americans face double-digit price increases for certain Thanksgiving staples.
Earlier this month, Walmart announced that customers will be able to get Thanksgiving meal staples such as turkey, ham, potatoes and stuffing "at last year's price."
THANKSGIVING HOURS: STORES THAT WILL BE OPEN, CLOSED
"Saving money is a top priority for our customers right now, so this year, we’re removing inflation on an entire basket containing traditional Thanksgiving items," John Laney, executive vice president of food at Walmart U.S. said in a blog post.
The Arkansas-based retailer said it is currently rolling out the pricing, and that discounts will continue "for all their holiday meals" through Dec. 26.
The news comes just after discount supermarket chain Aldi announced that it's discounting Thanksgiving staples so that they will match 2019 prices.
Holiday food including appetizers, desserts, sides and beverages, are being discounted up to 30% as part of its Thanksgiving Price Rewind promotion, the grocer said.

"Providing amazing products at the absolute lowest prices is what we've always done, and we know right now that's more important than ever," Dave Rinaldo, president of Aldi U.S., said.
Grocery prices eased in October, although they still remain elevated compared to a year ago. According to the consumer price index, the cost of food rose 10.9% in October compared to a year ago. However, the food at home category, which is food purchased at grocery stores, rose 12.4%.
DEMAND FOR GROCERY DELIVERY COOLS AS FOOD COSTS RISE
Aldi, which has 2,200 stores across 38 states, says it will "continue to be the low-price leader in every community it serves" no matter what's happening in the world.
However, Walmart and Aldi are not the only grocers giving shoppers some relief this Thanksgiving.
Lidl also announced that its customers would be able to get an entire Thanksgiving meal that feeds up to 10 people for less than $30.
The discount grocer's $30 Thanksgiving basket, which kicked off on Nov. 2 at all Lidl US stores for as long as supplies last, includes a frozen turkey for $0.49 cents per pound. The basket also includes pumpkin pie mix, pie crust, milk, celery, baby carrots, fresh cranberries, peas, sweet potatoes, turkey stuffing mix, heavy whipping cream and Hawaiian sweet rolls.
Kroger has a zero-compromise shopping guide with meal options that can feed 10 people for as little as $5 per person. The grocer, who estimates the cost of turkey has risen 20 cents per pound this year, said it will not shift the rising cost to customers.
For a limited time, BJ's Wholesale Club also offered a free turkey promotion to its members.
