AARP survey says many retiring Baby Boomers plan to leave NY and take their money

AARP says many Baby Boomers plan to leave New York as they retire and take a slice of the state's economy with them.

The group says its survey shows 60 percent of working New Yorkers over 50 say they're likely to go elsewhere in retirement, taking an estimated $105 billion or more of annual spending.

AARP says the statewide survey shows 40 percent worry about paying rent or mortgages, 56 percent are extremely or very worried about paying property taxes, 51 percent worry about utility bills and most are looking for improvements in health care, housing, transportation and jobs for older residents.

Spokesman Erik Kriss says the survey of 407 registered voters has a margin of error of 5 percent.

Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964.
