Companies pledge millions in Harvey donations

A long list of American companies have already pledged millions of dollars to help Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The American Red Cross and other organizations are asking for donations to support their response to the storm, which caused massive amounts of flooding and left thousands stranded in Houston and nearby cities. CoreLogic estimated last week that Harvey could create more than $40 billion in damage.

Here are some of the companies that announced donations as of Monday:

Abbott

Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) and its foundation are providing a total of $1 million in grants and healthcare and nutrition products. The company said it will send $900,000 in grants to the American Red Cross, AmeriCares and Direct Relief.

Academy Sports + Outdoors

The sporting goods retailer, which is based in the Houston suburbs, is looking to donate $1 million in clothing and shoes, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Academy opened the doors to Houston-area stores so first responders could grab life jackets, boats and other supplies for rescue operations. It's also using its headquarters as a temporary residence for police, EMTs and National Guardsmen.

Aetna

The health insurer is donating $100,000 apiece to the Red Cross and the Community Foundation of Greater Houston through its Aetna Foundation. Another $50,000 will go to Team Rubicon, a group consisting of military veterans.

Aetna (NYSE:AET) also said insurance holders affected by the storm can refill prescriptions early.

Allstate

Allstate (NYSE:ALL) will donate $1.5 million and match up to $250,000 in employee and agency owner contributions to Feeding America and the Red Cross.

Amazon

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Whole Foods, which the e-commerce giant recently acquired, will match up to $1 million in donations to the Red Cross through Amazon.com.

American Airlines

Members of American Airlines’ (NYSE:AAL) loyalty program can receive 10 miles for every dollar they donate to the Red Cross, with a minimum donation of $25.

Bass Pro

The fishing and outdoors retailer is providing 80 boats for rescue efforts and donating $40,000 in supplies, including protein-rich foods.

Bayer

Bayer (OTC:BAYRY) will provide a total of $200,000 to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. The German pharmaceutical company will donate $100,000 to the Red Cross and $100,000 to Direct Relief, a non-profit. Bayer also said it's working with non-profits to determine the need for product donations.

Boeing

Boeing (NYSE:BA) announced a $1 million donation to the Red Cross.

Caterpillar

The Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) Foundation is donating $300,000 to the Red Cross. The company also said it’s preparing equipment for the cleanup effort and working with local dealers to make generators available. Caterpillar has begun shipping power generation equipment from other parts of the country to Texas and other affected areas.

Cheniere Energy

Houston-based Cheniere Energy (NYSE:LNG) announced a $1 million donation to the Red Cross.

“While Cheniere has been lucky to avoid any major impacts from Harvey, many in our communities have a long road ahead to assess the damage and recover from this storm,” CEO Jack Fusco said.

Del Frisco's Restaurant Group

The Texas-based restaurant chain will donate 20% of daily sales during Labor Day weekend with a goal of raising $1 million. Del Frisco's has 53 restaurants under the Double Eagle Steak House, Del Frisco's Grille and Sullivan's Steakhouse brands.

Exxon Mobil

Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) is allocating $500,000 for contributions to regional Red Cross organizations along the U.S. Gulf Coast, the company announced.

“We are monitoring the storm and working with the Red Cross to determine where best we can direct these resources to assist with preparation and relief efforts in the Gulf region,” CEO Darren Woods said.

Ford

The Ford (NYSE:F) Fund is contributing $100,000 to disaster relief efforts in Texas. In addition, the company will match up to $50,000 in Red Cross donations from employees and dealerships.

Gallery Furniture

Gallery Furniture is using its showrooms as makeshift shelters. Owner Jim McIngvale said the stores sent out delivery trucks to pick up residents stranded in the flood.

Google

Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will make a $250,000 Google.org grant to the Red Cross and match up to $250,000 in donations from employees.

Home Depot

Home Depot (NYSE:HD) pledged $1 million that will go to the non-profits including the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Convoy of Hope, Operation Blessing and Team Rubicon.

The home-improvement retailer, along with Lowe’s (NYSE:LOW), activated their command centers and began sending supplies into the area in anticipation of Harvey’s impact.

Humana

Humana’s (NYSE:HUM) foundation provided a $250,000 grant to the Red Cross.

Jefferies

Jefferies, the investment bank, will donate net trading commissions on Wednesday, Aug. 30, from U.S., European and Asia equity, fixed income and foreign exchange trading. The firm is making a $1 million contribution as well.

Kendra Scott

The Austin-based jewelry brand said it will donate 50% of all online sales Tuesday, Aug. 29, to the American Red Cross. Kendra Scott has 16 retail locations in Texas, including two in Houston.

Lockheed Martin

Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) made a $380,000 commitment to Harvey relief efforts.

Lowe’s

Lowe’s donated $500,000 to the Red Cross and activated its customer donation program in Texas stores. Customers can also donate online.

Mattress Firm

Houston-based Mattress Firm said it will provide $1 million worth of products, such as pillows, blankets and mattresses. The company, which has more than 3,500 stores nationwide, will also donate a percentage of purchases made through Sept. 5 to send up to an additional $1 million in products to Texas.

Mazda

The Japanese automaker and its foundation are giving the Red Cross Harvey relief fund a $100,000 donation.

Microsoft

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) gave an initial grant of $100,000 to the Red Cross, according to a tweet by Jane Meseck, senior director of global programs for Microsoft Philanthropies.

MyPillow

Mike Lindell, founder of MyPillow, told Sean Hannity of Fox News that the company will donate an initial 60,000 pillows to the affected region starting Friday.

PepsiCo

PepsiCo (NYSE:PEP) and its foundation announced a $1 million grant for the Red Cross.

Range Resources

Range Resources (NYSE:RRC), a natural gas producer, said Monday it will donate $100,000 to the Red Cross.

Ready Pac Foods

Ready Pac Foods has shipped 24,000 Chicken Caesar Bistro Bowl pre-packaged salads to Texas.

Starbucks

The Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) Foundation gave the Red Cross $250,000, and customers can donate to Harvey relief efforts at one of the coffee chain’s stores.

Toyota

Toyota (NYSE:TM) Motor North America, working with its dealers and other partners, will provide a combined relief effort of $3 million. Donations will go to the St. Bernard Project and the Red Cross, among others. Toyota will also donate pre-owned vehicles to help move people and property during recovery operations.

Dan Friedkin, chairman of Houston-based Gulf States Toyota, created the Friedkin Disaster Relief Fund and has guaranteed at least $1 million from the Friedkin family, The Friedkin Group and Gulf States Toyota. The relief fund will support Toyota and Lexus dealers, associates and individuals across the region impacted by Harvey. The fund is accepting donations at www.friedkinrelieffund.com.

United Airlines

United Continental (NYSE:UAL) has offered 1,000 bonus miles to customers who make a contribution of $50 or more. The airline will match the first $200,000 raised, up from an intial $100,000 pledge.

Valero

Valero is contributing $1 million to the Red Cross.

Verizon

Verizon (NYSE:VZ) pledged $10 million to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. The money will go to four non-profits.

Walmart

Walmart (NYSE:WMT) and its foundation substantially increased its committment to Harvey relief, saying it would provide up to $20 million in product and cash donations to the Red Cross and other groups.

Western Union

Western Union (NYSE:WU) is matching a combined total of $200,000 in grants to the Red Cross.
