Time Magazine named health-care professionals from Doctors Without Borders, Samaritans Purse and others working to quell the ebola epidemic in West Africa as its "Person of the Year" for 2014 on Wednesday. The health-care workers were lauded for risking their lives to treat people in remote villages and urban slums with already weak health-care infrastructure. "Ebola is a war, and a warning," wrote Time Managing Editor Nancy Gibbs. "The global health system is nowhere close to strong enough to keep us safe from infectious disease, and 'us' means everyone, not just those in faraway places where this is one threat among many that claim lives every day."
