Hurricane Matthew Remains a Category 3 Storm As It Nears Florida
Hurricane Matthew is still a category 3 storm as it moves closer to the Florida coast, but is expected to weaken in the next 48 hours, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. The storm is now 35 miles north-northeast of Cape Canaveral and about 47 miles east-southeast of Daytona Beach, the NHC said in its latest advisory. Matthew has maximum sustained winds of 120 miles an hour and is moving north. It is expected to move close to the east cost of the Florida peninsula through Friday night, and to come close to the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina on Saturday. A second hurricane, named Nicole, is churning about 345 miles south of Bermuda with maximum sustained winds of 100 miles an hour, said the NHC. That storm is also expected to weaken in the next 48 hours.
