Ikea announces plans to open first Nevada store; Swedish furniture retailer eyeing Vegas area
The popular home furnishings store Ikea has announced plans to open its first store in Nevada in the summer of 2016.
Officials with the Swedish retailer said at a news conference Monday that they're proposing a 351,000-square-foot store in the southwest part of Las Vegas, at Sunset Road and Durango Drive near the 215 Beltway.
Ikea has 38 stores in the U.S., but Nevada shoppers must travel to Covina, California, Tempe, Arizona, or Draper, Utah to buy the store's signature ready-to-assemble furniture.
Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager said the project will create 350 construction jobs and another 300 full- and part-time jobs once it opens.
Brager said the project still needs approval from a town board in August and the Clark County Commission in September.
