Judge to consider whether to order accounting of trust controlled by late publisher Scaife
A Pennsylvania judge is being asked to make trustees account for money spent from a $210 million trust controlled by the late billionaire publisher of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Richard Mellon Scaife's children, Jennie Scaife and David Scaife, contend they were entitled to money from the trust after their father died July 4.
But according to court filings by the publisher's trustees, the account was exhausted by the time he died, with at least some of the money going to fund the Trib and other newspapers Scaife owned.
The trustees say Scaife's children were never promised money from the trust.
David Scaife says he was led to believe $90 million would be left when his father died.
The publisher's attorneys say the children each received about $12 million annually from another family trust.
