NBC Suspends Brian Williams For Six Months With No Pay
NBC News is suspending Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of its "Nightly News" program, without pay for six months, reports said late Tuesday. Williams several times recounted a story which later proved false about coming under fire while riding in a Chinook military helicopter in Iraq. Fellow NBC newscaster Lester Holt will continue to fill in for Williams during the period, according to a memo from NBC News president Deborah Turness, cited in several reports. While Turness said Williams' misrepresentations were "wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian's position," she also said: "We felt it would have been wrong to disregard the good work Brian has done and the special relationship he has forged with our viewers over 22 years." NBC is part of Comcast Corp.
