Police: 2 killed in explosion at southwest Illinois recycling plant, bomb squad sent to scene
Police say bomb experts are combing the site of an explosion in an Illinois suburb of St. Louis.
Granite City Police Maj. Jeff Connor tells The Associated Press there is no fire at the Totall Metal Recycling plant where two people died in an explosion Monday.
Connor says the bodies have been recovered. Initially, authorities could not enter the area for fear of another explosion.
He says the site remains secured while technicians continue to search for other explosives.
The Illinois Secretary of State's office says it sent a bomb squad to the scene to assist an explosive ordnance disposal team from Scott Air Force Base.
A website says the company recycles items including computers and automobiles and also deals with the ammunition industry.
