Syracuse mayor releases $1B agenda: investments would include water projects, broadband, roads
The mayor of Syracuse has created a $1 billion list of projects that she says would address her city's long-term infrastructure needs.
Mayor Stephanie Miner announced on Tuesday what she's calling the Syracuse Billion Agenda — a play on Gov. Andrew Cuomo's "Buffalo Billion" economic development initiative.
Miner's plan includes more than $850 million worth of water projects to upgrade aging water mains and use lake water to cool buildings within the city.
It also calls for $84 million to expand broadband Internet access throughout the city and nearly $50 million for city roads.
The proposal will require significant state support. Miner says she'll aggressively lobby Cuomo and the state Legislature.
Miner says the projects would lower energy costs, improve quality of life and improve the business climate.
