U.S. Stock-index Futures Suggest Modest Gain
Just less than 12 hours ahead of the start of U.S. equities trade in New York, stock-index futures were implying a modestly higher open for the Wednesday session. Futures for the S&P 500 suggested a 0.3% gain at the start, while those for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq 100 pointed to a 0.2% gain. While the futures could well move from their current levels, especially after the European markets open, the gains would mark a turn higher after five straight losses for the S&P 500. The advance for the futures came as the major East Asian markets traded mostly higher, with Tokyo's Nikkei Average ending the morning session with a 0.5% rise, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index [s:HK:HSI] was up 0.4% ahead of its midday break.
