U.S. Stocks Open Higher; Consumer Spending Surges
U.S. stocks opened higher on Thursday as investors assessed better-than-expected economic reports. Consumer spending leaps in May, marking the biggest gain in six years. The S&P 500 opened 5 points, or 0.2%, higher at 2,112. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 55 points, or 0.3%, to 18,020. The Nasdaq Composite began the day up 15 points, or 0.3% at 5,137.
