Uber Says California Employee Ruling Only Applies To One Driver

Uber said the California Labor Commission's ruling that a driver in California was an employee, not an independent contractor, is non-binding and only applies to one driver. An Uber spokesperson cited a previous ruling by the commission in 2012, which found that a driver was an independent contractor, not an employee. "It's important to remember that the number one reason drivers choose to use Uber is because they have complete flexibility and control," said the spokesperson.
