US Airways flight bound for Charlotte safely returns to Austin, possible landing gear issue
A US Airways flight bound for North Carolina has safely returned to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport with a possible landing gear issue.
Spokesman Matt Miller says nobody was injured in Thursday's incident with Flight 5634, operated by Mesa Airlines.
Miller says the CRJ-900 regional jet was heading for Charlotte, North Carolina, when a cockpit light indicated possible trouble with the landing gear. Miller says the captain did not declare an emergency but decided to return to Austin, as a precaution, and the gear retracted normally.
Miller says the plane, carrying 55 passengers and four crewmembers, was taken out of service for a maintenance check.
Passengers were being placed on other flights.
