US Chamber invests nearly $30 million to help Republicans with 1 glaring omission _ Georgia

The most powerful business group in the country is spending tens of millions of dollars to help Republicans win control of the Senate with one glaring omission — the tight Georgia Senate race.

Rob Engstrom, political director for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, says the organization will remain neutral in the contest between businessman David Perdue and Democrat Michelle Nunn. The Chamber, which backed Republican Rep. Jack Kingston in the summer GOP runoff in Georgia, based its decision on the opinions of its business members there.

The Chamber also is staying on the sidelines in Louisiana where Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu, who got the group's endorsement in 2008, faces Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy.

Engstrom made the comments in a taped interview for C-SPAN's "Newsmakers" which will air on Sunday.
