Vessel Operations At Ports On West Coast To Be Halted Over Weekend

Ports along the West Coast will suspend vessel operations over the weekend amid an ongoing labor dispute, the Pacific Maritime Association said in a statement Friday. "After three months of union slowdowns, it makes no sense to pay extra for less work," PMA spokesman Wade Gates said in the statement. Negotiations between the PMA and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union over a contract covering about 20,000 workers at 30 ports along the West Coast have been have been ongoing for nine months.
