While it’s only the 31st largest state in terms of population and has only 41 delegates up for grabs compared to New York, which has 270 delegates and ranks No. 4 in terms of size, it still carries much momentum as candidates decide the next steps in their campaigns. The last New Yorker to hit Iowa for votes was a Republican hopeful named Donald Trump in 2016. He finished second behind Texas' Sen. Ted Cruz (though Trump did win the state in the general election against Hillary Clinton).
