Alan Dershowitz: Ellison is the 'Worst Possible Person' to Lead DNC
Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) is emerging as a frontrunner to become the next leader of the Democratic National Committee.
However, critics of Ellison have cited his past comments and relationships, including an association with Nation of Islam founder Louis Farrakhan, as reasons why he is not the right fit for the job.
Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, who is among Ellison’s chorus of critics, had some harsh words regarding the next potential head of the DNC.
“It’s about the dumbest thing among many dumb things the Democrats have done after losing white, middle-class, working-class people in the Midwest,” Dershowitz stated. “You’re going to pick somebody who for nine years was associated with a hate America, anti-American, anti-Western person? It’s just nuts. And they’re going to lose a lot of Democrats if they appoint him.”
The well-known lawyer said if Ellison is selected to lead the DNC, the Republicans will be the big winners because Democrats could abscond from their own party.
“[Ellison is] going to lose many pro-Israel Democrats, many pro-American Democrats,” Dershowitz said.
Instead of Ellison, Dershowitz said he would choose Jennifer Granholm, former governor of Michigan, to lead the party.
“[She] comes [from] that part of the country… has tremendous appeal to middle-class people,” he explained. “If Joe Biden would take it he would be fantastic.”
He added: “If you gave me a list of 1,000 people, I’d put Ellison 1,001. He is the worst possible person at this point in the history of the Democratic Party to pick and I hope the Democratic leaders will come to their senses.”
