Black leadership engaged in the race business: Candace Owens

The black unemployment rate dropped to a historic low in April 2018, but according to Turning Point USA communications director Candace Owens, the African-American community isn’t getting the message.

Owens blames that on black leadership she claims is engaged in the race business and that doesn’t want to see real progress for minorities in the country.

“Race has become a business, it’s pretty true stuff,” she told FOX Business’ Stuart Varney during an interview on Friday. “It can be harsh, and it can also be true. Unfortunately that’s what it  comes down to. The black community needs new leaders.”

The unemployment rate for black Americans dropped to 6.6% last month -- the lowest point on record, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Unemployment for white Americans remained at 3.6%, the lowest since January 2018.

Despite the drop, Owens said President Donald Trump receives almost no credit for what he’s done, pointing to his State of the Union address when the Congressional Black Caucus refused to clap when he touted the low black unemployment rate.

Now, she hopes to spur conversations -- and arguments -- among African Americans in order to give the community its voice back, whether she’s disliked in the process or not.

“That’s why I got into this,” she said. “I understood that race had become a business.”
