Former A.G. Gonzales: Stricter Gun Control Laws Isn't the Sole Answer

“Unfortunately, despite our progress against ISIS on the battlefield and in the financial realm, our efforts have not reduced the group’s terrorism capability and global reach,” said Brennan.

Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales weighed in on the fight against ISIS

“I’m not surprised at all.  I think that our foreign policy has encouraged this environment, this situation, so I think the CIA Director was doing his job in presenting to the American public through this hearing before Congress what the situation is overseas,” Gonzales told the FOX Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo.

Gonzales sees a need to reevaluate the Obama Administration’s strategy against ISIS.

“It’s hard for me to speculate but clearly the current strategy is not working,” Gonzales said.

On suggesting Brennan’s comments show a split on policy within the Obama Administration Gonzales said, “I think Mr. Brennan based on my experience working with him I think he’s simply doing his job providing a very honest assessment in terms of what the situation is on the ground. “

Gonzales weighed in on the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email scandal as well.

“This is obviously a very serious investigation both personally for Mrs. Clinton and politically, it’s the middle of a presidential campaign.  Obviously the FBI wants to get this right,” Gonzales continued, “But I have every confidence in the bureau moving forward and doing the thing that’s right.”

In the wake of the mass shooting in Orlando, President Obama is pushing for stricter gun control legislation.

“I think that stricter gun control laws isn’t the sole answer.   I do support additional background checks, so long as the database is accurate and complete and so long as the information in the database is not used for any other purpose by the U.S. government.  But that alone isn’t going to solve the problem,” Gonzales said.

But Gonzales said other factors need to be addressed as well.

“We need to have a more robust foreign policy.  I think we need to take a look at our mental health laws,” said Gonzales.
