Mexico will elect Castro-like ‘nut job:’ Kyle Bass
Mexico’s upcoming presidential election is something to watch, according to Kyle Bass, chief investment officer at Hayman Capital Management, who cautioned investors on allocating capital to Latin America.
He compared Mexico’s leading presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, often referred to by his initials “AMLO,” to a crazy person.
“He’s somewhere between Castro and Chavez,” Bass told FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo on “Mornings with Maria” on Wednesday. “AMLO is a complete nut job and I think he’s going to win the election in Mexico.”
Bass added an AMLO victory poses a “real risk” to trade negotiations.
“NAFTA is a complete ball in the air in the next two and three months,” he said. “I’m in Texas … so our trade relationships are something that people really need to be focused on.”
U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer plans to meet with Mexican and Canadian counterparts on Monday after he returns from a trip to China.
