Philadelphia elementary school stepping up anti-NRA campaign: Republican neighbor

A public elementary school in Philadelphia is doubling down on its anti-NRA and anti-GOP rhetoric, according to Erin Elmore, a Republican who lives nearby.

“The [signs] are still there,” Elmore told FOX Business’ Stuart Varney on “Varney & Co.” on Monday. “I saw a new sign this morning when I was driving by actually.”

Albert M. Greenfield School attracted some criticism last week by displaying the signs, which were created by students and had slogans such as “NRA – Go Away, GOP – Enough BS.”

Elmore, who “walked by one day” and noticed the signs, submitted a right-to-know request, asking when they were made and what resources were used in making the signs.  Elmore said the school is using young children as “political pawns.”

She added: “These are 5-year-old, 6-year-old, 7-year-old kids. If you’re telling me this is what they think … and they know these words like “dope” and “GOP” and “NRA,” then these kids should all be members of Mensa right now.”

In a statement from the Philadelphia District, Megan Lello, a senior communications officer, said: “We support students’ rights to self-expression as long as that expression does not disrupt an orderly school environment, and these signs are not in violation of School District of Philadelphia policy.”

Judge Andrew Napolitano, senior judicial analyst for Fox News, told Varney that the school is within its legal rights to display the anti-gun signs.
