Rep. Hensarling: I'd Take Trump's Call for Treasury Secretary Post

President-elect Trump tweeted on Friday he would make important leadership decisions soon. Rep. Jeb Hensarling is reportedly being considered as Trump’s Treasury Secretary. Even though he has previously stated that he had no plans to pursue the post, he revealed his interest in the position during an interview with the FOX Business Network’s Neil Cavuto.

"I hope I can help the president as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. If they are interested in talking about something else, I will certainly answer the telephone,” he said.

Hensarling was enthusiastic over Trump’s economic agenda and also expressed excitement over his willingness to dismantle the 2010 Dodd-Frank Law passed in response to the 2008 financial crisis.

“I’ve shared with Donald Trump before plans that we have put forth in our committee for getting rid of Dodd-Frank. He wants to get rid of Dodd-Frank,” he said.

He also shared his thoughts on recent anti-Trump protests.

“We know our First Amendment is sacrosanct -- the freedom of speech, the right to petition your government for the redress of grievances and shrine in the constitution. Nowhere will you see the right to riot, to destroy private property and just the hatred that is being spewed in the street,” he said.
