Looking for a holiday season job? These companies are hiring

Some companies have already announced their holiday hiring plans. With the U.S. unemployment rate now at 3.7 percent, the lowest since 1969, retailers are likely looking to get a head start as a tight job market is making it harder to find staff.

FOX Business is tracking where the hot holiday jobs are.

Kroger's 

As one of the nation's largest U.S. employers, the grocer is looking to add 10,000 seasonal employees. "Holidays are an exciting time for Kroger because food is at the center of every celebration. We are looking for talented, inspired associates who share our vision to serve America through food inspiration and uplift," said Lanell Ohlinger, Kroger's vice president of talent development in a statement. Positions open include; supporting customer service, e-commerce, merchandising, operations and the pharmacy. Kroger is also encouraging veterans to apply. The company has hired 6,557 military-affiliated associates so far this year.

Macy's

The department store leader, which also owns Bloomingdale's and Blue Mercury, said it will hire 80,000 seasonal employees, in line with the number of temporary staff it hired for the 2017 holiday season. The employees will work at Macy’s, Macy’s Backstage and Bloomingdale’s retail stores, its call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers nationwide. They also will support online sales, including its buy-online and pickup in store strategy. In its press release, Macy’s said it anticipates a “strong and successful holiday shopping season.

The online flower and gift company announced plans to add more than 8,000 seasonal employees across its food brands nationwide, including Harry & David, Cheryl’s Cookies and The Popcorn Factory. The company said it will offer competitive wages, flexible schedules, employee discounts and incentive programs. Some seasonal hires will be considered for permanent positions once the holidays are over.

Michaels

The arts and crafts king announced plans to hire more than 15,000 seasonal workers for the holidays, in its U.S. and Canada stores and distribution centers. The arts and crafts retailer said it would offer its seasonal hires competitive wages and a 30 percent discount at Michaels stores, noting that last year more than 40 percent of its seasonal hires transitioned into regular workers after the holidays. This is the same amount of seasonal hires as last year.
