Antonio Brown, Logan Paul agree to boxing match

DAZN confirms talks with both stars are underway, but aren't finalized

Antonio Brown’s future in the NFL may be in doubt, but the troubled football star is eyeing a potential payday in the form of a celebrity boxing match against YouTube star Logan Paul.

Brown and Paul crossed paths at the Maxim “Havana Nights” Super Bowl party in Miami last Saturday night, TMZ reported. At the event, the two celebrities informally agreed to a sanctioned boxing match.

Officials from streaming service DAZN confirmed to FOX Business that talks are underway with both camps about a potential fight. However, terms of a potential bout have yet to be finalized.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn told British radio outlet TalkSport that he has entered negotiations with Brown.

“DAZN and our U.S. partners are saying this is a big, big fight. It’s a whole different demographic,” Hearn said. “This isn’t a YouTuber, this is a national sports star who was a huge star in a sport that’s followed by basically the entire country. … We’d like to make this happen but speaking to his agents, his priority is to get on a team.”

The possibility of a boxing match began to take form last month when Brown and Paul traded light-hearted barbs on social media. Brown told Paul to “square up,” prompting the YouTube star to respond that he would “drop [Brown] faster than the [New England] Patriots.”

Paul has more than 20 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. The 24-year-old previously boxed British YouTuber Olajide Olatunji, known online as “KSI," on two occasions. The first fight was ruled a draw. Paul lost the second fight via majority decision.

DAZN held streaming rights to the second match between Paul and KSI. The platform teased Brown’s boxing training session in a post last month.

Brown was arrested last month on a felony charge of battery and burglary after an altercation with a moving truck driver at his home in Hollywood, Fla. The incident occurred after a series of domestic disputes between Brown and his former girlfriend at the same residence.

The former All-Pro wide receiver was accused by two women of sexual assault last fall. The Patriots released Brown just days after the second allegation surfaced. An NFL investigation into Brown’s alleged actions has yet to conclude.

Brown played just one game during the 2019 season prior to his release.
