Patriots willing to pay Tom Brady $30M per year to keep star QB: Report
Brady, 42, set to become free agent
The New England Patriots are prepared to pay top dollar to retain the services of their superstar free agent quarterback Tom Brady, according to a report on Sunday.
The Patriots are willing to offer Brady more than $30 million per season to return, NFL Network reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. Franchises executives reportedly believe that Brady, 42, still has one or two seasons of good football left before he retires.
A $30 million salary would place Brady among the NFL's highest-paid players. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has the league's highest average annual salary at $35 million. Just six NFL players, all quarterbacks, have an average annual salary of $30 million or higher, according to Spotrac.
WHY SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS GO TO DISNEY WORLD
Brady will officially become a free agent for the first time in his career in March. Aside from the high-level contract offer, the six-time Super Bowl champion is said to want the Patriots to improve their offense to secure his commitment.
Other potential suitors include the Los Angeles Chargers and the Tennessee Titans, according to the report.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft has already indicated that he would prefer for Brady to either re-sign with New England or retire, rather than sign with another franchise. Brady has spent his entire 20-year career with the Patriots.

Brady told Westwood One Radio that he is "open-minded" about free agency and his potential destination. The quarterback prompted intense speculation on social media last week after sharing a cryptic Instagram photo of himself walking through the tunnel at Gillette Stadium.

Rather than a hint about his NFL future, the post was actually a scene from a commercial that will feature Brady during Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, according to NFL Network.
