Nightclub owner's bankruptcy impedes wrongful-death lawsuit

A lawsuit against the owner of a Cincinnati nightclub where a shooting left two people dead and 15 injured is in jeopardy following the owner's bankruptcy filing.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Cameo owner Julian Rodgers filed for bankruptcy Dec. 28, impeding a wrongful-death lawsuit filed by the family of O'Bryan Spikes. Spikes was killed.

An attorney for Spikes' family says it's evaluating the situation.

Court documents say Rodgers has less than $50,000 in assets and up to $500,000 worth of liabilities from creditors. Spikes' family is seeking at least $25,000 in the lawsuit.

The family claims Rodgers failed to protect club patrons by letting some bypass security. Telephone numbers listed for Rodgers and the club are out of service.

Cornell Beckley has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder in the shooting.
