Starbucks fending off growing unionization effort at its stores

Just a few weeks after ballots were mailed for a rare unionization vote at three Starbucks locations in Buffalo, New York, the coffee chain is fending off a growing movement as three additional stores in the area appeared before the National Labor Relations Board on Thursday to request their own elections.

The National Labor Relations Board, which approved the vote last month, will start mailing ballots on Wednesday evening and count the votes on Dec. 9. Approximately 111 of the coffee chain's workers will decide on whether they would like to be represented by Workers United, an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union.
