Major US airlines add South Florida flights for Super Bowl

The Niners and Chiefs are slated to face off at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium on Feb. 2

Three major airlines are adding extra flights to help fans of the San Fransisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs catch Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

American Airlines, JetBlue and Southwest have added nonstop options to and from South Florida a few days before the big game, as well as one day after the champion of the National Football League's 100th season is crowned.

Southwest Airlines 

Just two days before the big kickoff, the world's largest low-cost air carrier will have five nonstop flights from Kansas City, Missouri, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Jan. 31, up from its traditional three flights.

There will also be another nonstop flight from San Jose to Fort Lauderdale aside from the connecting and one-stop service currently available.

On Feb. 3, the carrier will have five nonstop flights bringing fans back to Kansas City and an additional nonstop flight headed back to San Jose. In addition, fans who are traveling during the big game can watch it live on TV on FOX on any Southwest Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft.

American Airlines 

Miami’s hometown airline and the largest carrier serving Miami International Airport added flights from Kansas City, and San Francisco, and San Jose.

The airline will have four flights departing Kansas City, two flights departing from San Jose and one flight departing San Fransisco on Jan. 31. to South Florida. The carrier will have eight flights departing South Florida back to San Jose, San Fransisco and Kansas City on Feb. 3.

The airline also added larger aircraft from its hubs in New York, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Chicago to accommodate the additional traffic to the game.

JetBlue 

Between Jan. 30 and Feb. 3, the airline added more than a dozen flights between San Francisco and Fort Lauderdale.

JetBlue typically operates up to three flights a day to Fort Lauderdale, however, for this shortened period, the airline will offer up to five daily flights on the peak travel days.

"New York's Hometown Airline" is also expanding service to South Florida from New York City. Between Jan. 30 and Feb. 4, the airline added 10 flights to its schedule between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Fort Lauderdale, resulting in an additional 2,000 seats for those interested in flying to the game.

The airline will also offer an "onboard entertainment experience" for those flying throughout the U.S. during the game.

Delta

Delta is also offering a slew of flights to support the increased travel. There will be 18 additional flights during the busy weekend with nine more incoming flights to Miami on Jan. 31 and nine outgoing flights on Feb. 3.

The extra flights will include travel between the company's hubs in Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York and Minneapolis to Miami, as well flights between Kansas City to Miami and San Fransisco to Miami. Some of the airline's fleet will be upgraded to accommodate for greater seat capacity.

All the flights will come equipped with seatback TV screens.

The game will be televised on FOX and live-streamed on the FOX Sports App and FOXSports.com. Kickoff will begin around 6:30 p.m. ET.
