Coronavirus: American Airlines joins other major airlines cutting flights to China

There's no demand amid coronavirus fears, AA said

American Airlines will not be ferrying passengers from Los Angeles to major Chinese cities Shanghai and Beijing amid the disease outbreak that has claimed more than 130 lives, the company confirmed to FOX Business on Wednesday.

Citing "significant decline in demand for travel to and from China," American Airlines said the suspensions apply to flights between Feb. 9 and March 27.

American Airlines will continue China flights to from Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, to Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. It will also carry on with flights from Los Angeles to Hong Kong.

British Airways announced it was suspending all direct flights to and from mainland China earlier on Wednesday. United Airlines is canceling two dozen flights to China next week because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The number of confirmed cases jumped to 5,974, surpassing the 5,327 in mainland China during the SARS outbreak in 2002-2003.
