Skippy recalls peanut butter jars that may contain metal fragments
Recalled Skippy peanut butter jars were shipped to 18 states
Skippy is recalling thousands of peanut butter jars due to fears of possible metal fragments in the products.
The potentially contaminated products are distinguishable via their "best by" dates marked on the top of their lids.
Affected products include a limited number of jars of Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread marked May 4-5, 2023; Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread marked May 5, 2023; Skippy Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread marked May 6-7, 2023; and Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter with Plant Protein marked May 10, 2023, according to the recall notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The jars were shipped to California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.
In total, the recall covers 9,353 cases or 161,692 total pounds of product. All retailers that received the recalled products have been notified.
The recall was initiated after the manufacturing facility’s internal detection systems detected the concern.

To date, there have been no complaints associated with the recalled products and no other Skippy brand peanut butter or peanut butter spreads are included in this recall.
