The Texas basketball team will be celebrating the late singer's life and music

The San Antonio Spurs will team up with Selena Quintanilla’s estate to honor the late “Queen of Cumbia” singer in the NBA’s first-ever Selena Night. The celebratory event will coincide with the Spurs’ game against the Golden State Warriors, which will take place at the AT&T Center nearly two weeks before the singer’s birthday.

“Having the Spurs reach out with this amazing idea to honor Selena was exciting to say the least,” said Suzette Quintanilla, CEO of Q Productions and sister to the fallen star. “I have been to Spurs games and have witnessed first-hand how Spurs fans get pumped up and love to sing along and dance when they hear our music. It just makes sense — it’s a Texas thing.”

The Spurs teased the event on its official Twitter account Wednesday: “Anything for...” the team posted in a reference to the singer's fanbase’s inside joke — “Anything for Selenas” — which took off after the 1997 biographical film starring Jennifer Lopez.

The tweet continued in Spanish, to say the Spurs will honor Selena's legacy, with the first NBA Selena Night at the AT&T Center on April 3.

It’s not the first time Selena has been honored by at a sporting event. Last year, the University of Texas Longhorn Band paid a tribute to the Tejano music icon during the Sugar Bowl halftime show. The 375-person ensemble played a rendition of Selena’s hit song “Como la Flor.”

Selena had an approximate total net worth of more than $12 million before her murder in 1995, according to The Wealth Record. She was a top-selling artist throughout the 90s having earned 14 spots on Billboard's Top Latin Songs chart, seven of which were number one.

To date, Selena has sold more than 90 million albums globally. She is the overall third-best Latin selling artist, behind Shakira and Gloria Estefan.

Selena is one artist that has achieved posthumous success. In recent years, Selena's Quintanilla estate has licensed Selena’s branding to MAC Cosmetics, Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters all of which created limited-edition collections on behalf of the Mexican-American singer.

It is not clear whether the Netflix series is tied to the lawsuit Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., filed against her husband Chris Perez in 2016 for an Estate Properties Agreement violation.

Also in 2016, Madame Tussauds Hollywood unveiled a Selena wax figure celebrating her status as a cultural icon. And by 2017, Selena received a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
